WiK is delighted to announce a dinner talk with Mark Teeuwen, author, scholar and one of the world’s leading experts on Shinto. He is currently professor of Japanese at Norway’s University of Oslo, having been born and raised in Holland. Amongst his books are such major works as A New History of Shinto (with John Breen, scholar at Kyoto’s Nichibunken). He is known in particular for putting forward the notion that Shinto consciousness did not develop until the Middle Ages. He is planning to address the rather exciting topic of Ise, Gion and the Politics of Heritage. This will be a dinner talk with a limited number of people, so please reserve in advance.
